Call for Climate Champions
The California Air Resources Board (CARB) recently announced the first-ever competition to discover the next generation of California Climate Champions. These champions will be young people from across the state who are passionate about addressing climate change and committed to spreading the word about how we can all play a part: as individuals, schools, communities and businesses. The competition is open to teens, aged 16-18, who can put together a news report that shows their ability to engage others and conveys their passion for tackling climate change. The 20 young people who will be selected as California Climate Champions will participate in a "climate camp" and help develop an online peer network to share ideas and motivate fellow young people to get involved in the climate change fight. Three champions will also get the chance to travel to the United Kingdom and Japan this spring to meet with peer climate champions from around the world. The deadline for submitting entries is Feb. 11, 2008, with winners announced by the end of the month. For more information, contact CARB's Annalisa Schilla at aschilla@arb.ca.gov or (916) 322-8514 or visit: www.arb.ca.gov/cc/climatechampions/climatechampions.htm Energy- and money-saving tips http://www.fypower.org/res/tools/energy_tips.html How energy efficiency can help combat climate change http://www.fypower.org/feature/climate/ January 1 - March 31, 2008, 5 pm

Ag Engine Registration - Update
June 14 - December 31, 2007, 5 pm
Tier 0 Portable Engine and Equipment
Advisory For engines which are not EPA certified (also known as Tier 0 engines), if the units were not permitted or registered by 2006, they can no longer get into the PERP program and therefore any operation in the Yolo-Solano District is in violation of our rules and regulations. The latest amendments to the PERP regulation and the ATCM gave some flexibility for Districts to permit or register Tier 0 engines for a limited period of time. The Yolo-Solano AQMD has worked with our neighboring Districts to develop a regional Tier 0 policy, which our board approved on May 9, 2007. The policy can allow for limited term usage of resident Tier 0 engines if a company enters a compliance agreement to settle the violation of not having a required permit. If a company comes to the District voluntarily, the penalty amount will be less than for any engine which we find operating in violation. For more information or to enter a compliance agreement, please contact Paul Hensleigh at (530) 757-3665. For more information on our program go to: www.ysaqmd.org/permits-perp.php |
