Inspections

The Yolo-Solano Air Quality Management District regulates air contaminants from stationary sources. The Inspection Program of the Compliance Division routinely conducts inspections to ensure compliance with applicable federal, state and District regulations. Source categories include agricultural products processing facilities, dry cleaners, ink and coating operations, manufacturing operations, and gasoline dispensing facilities (GDF's). The District also regulates any other activities which result in the emission of an air contaminant which interfere with attainment and maintenance of health-based air quality standards, or which may cause a public nuisance.

The District encourages companies to self inspect their equipment on a routine and frequent basis to ensure that their operations are in compliance with their permit conditions. If a company discovers a problem with equipment, reporting the problem using the breakdown procedures can grant some relief from enforcement action.

The Division has four field-based, inspection staff who conduct inspections of air pollution sources, verify compliance, investigate breakdowns, document violations, and respond to citizen complaints about air pollution and accidental releases of air contaminants. The Inspection Staff are responsible for all the permitted sources and inspection activity within the District's jurisdiction. Routine inspections ensure emission reductions written into regulations are actually achieved. The enforcement program utilizes a cooperative working relationship with the regulated sources in conjunction with graduated levels of enforcement actions to maintain compliance with air quality regulations.
