The Clean Air Funds (CAF) Program is designed to reduce emissions from motor vehicles by supporting cleaner vehicle technologies, alternative modes of transportation, and educating the public about air pollution.
Wood Stove Change-Out Incentive Program
To promote the reduction of particulate matter from wood-burning appliances, the District has teamed with retailers and industry to develop an incentive program to encourage home-owners to voluntarily replace their old appliances with cleaner burning EPA Phase II-certified appliances. These EPA-certified appliances are designed to significantly reduce the amount of particulate matter emitted into the air by causing wood to burn much more efficiently.
If you are considering replacing an older wood burning appliance with a new gas, pellet or wood stove, contact Jim Antone at (530) 757-3653 or via email at jantone@ysaqmd.org. Current application period is September 15, 2008 - February 27, 2009 or until funding is depleted. Application 2008-09 Program Information

AB 923 Clean School Bus Program
To reduce emissions from school buses, the District adopted the Clean School Bus Program. Eligible projects include:
- Retrofitting of existing buses with diesel particulate filters
- Repower of existing buses with newer lower emission engines
- Replacement of pre-1987 school buses with new lower emission school buses
Contact Jim Antone at (530) 757-3653 or jantone@ysaqmd.org for a current status on the program.
SECAT
The Sacramento Emergency Clean Air Transportation (SECAT) Program is a partnership between the air districts of the Sacramento Federal Nonattainment Area (SFNA) and the Sacramento Area Council of Governments (SACOG). The program goal is to reduce emissions from on-road heavy-duty diesel vehicles. Please contact the Sacramento Metropolitan Air Quality Management District, Mobile Source Division at (916) 874-4890 for information on available incentives.
Carl Moyer Program
The Carl Moyer Program funds projects using technologies that reduce emissions from on- and off-road heavy-duty vehicles. Projects may include engine repowers, the purchase of new vehicles using alternative fuels, and engine retrofit devices approved by the California Air Resources Board. Visit the California Air Resources Board's website for information on verified technologies and fuels. Please contact the Sacramento Metropolitan Air Quality Management District, Mobile Source Division at (916) 874-4893 for information on available incentives.
