Spare The Air

Vehicle emissions produce roughly 70 percent of the pollutants that create summer smog. The Sacramento region, which includes Yolo-Solano, does not meet federal health standards for smog. Smog can impact the health of all residents, but especially young children, the elderly and those with respiratory ailments such as asthma.

To help reduce the number of high-smog days, Spare The Air alerts are called when air pollution is forecasted to be high between May and October. On Spare The Air Days, please drive less. This could mean taking public transit, carpooling, biking, walking or telecommuting.
